Chandler

Located in the East Valley, the city of Chandler is known for its exciting amenities, access to outdoor recreation, and a diverse economy. It is divided into several districts: the Price Road Corridor, West Chandler, North Chandler, the Chandler Airpark area, and the downtown area south of Chandler Boulevard.

Chandler is surrounded by freeways, making it easy for residents and visitors to drive in and out of the city. Cutting right through the city are Arizona State Routes 87, 202, and a little of 101.

History of Chandler

The city of Chandler was named after Dr. Alexander John Chandler, Arizona’s first mayor and veterinary surgeon. He moved to the area in 1891, subdivided his 18,000 acres of ranch land, then put them up for sale.

After the number of Chandler residents exceeded 1,000, the town was incorporated in 1920. But it was only on May 24, 1954, when the town of Chandler officially became a city.

Agriculture was a major industry in Chandler, with cotton, alfalfa, and grains as its top crops. However, the industry shifted in the 1980s and high tech companies began to dominate the economic sphere. Today, global tech companies such as Intel Corporation have offices and campuses here.
